Day 01
|
DELHI-LEH
Departure by early morning flight from Delhi to Leh.
Transfer from Airport to hotel in Leh. Leh is dominated
by the nine-story Palace, a building in the grand
tradition of Tibetan architecture, said to have inspired
the famous Potala Palace in Lhasa. Lunch. Full day
free for acclimatization at an altitude of 3500m or
11500 feet. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 02
|
LEH
Early Breakfast. Walk to the Shankar Gompa. Shankar
is a small complex, the monk's dwelling surrounding
three sides of a courtyard, which the fourth is made
up of the Du-kang and-other temples. Their wall paintings
are fresh and bright and the whole Gompa has a pleasantly
clean and well-maintained appearance. Return walk
towards your hotel enroute visiting the Ladakh Ecological
Centre. Lunch. Afternoon visit Shanti Sputa on top
of a hill commanding a nice view of the Leh and green
suburbs of the town. Dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 03
|
LEH - PANGONG
After breakfast drive to Pangong Lake (Alt.14450 ft/160
km). The drive passes one of the easiest passes Chang
to (17820 feet) at such a height. This is an extraordinarily
long and narrow drainage basin with width ranging
between 2-6 km and length of nearly 150 km, out of
which, only 50 km is inside, India and rest 100 km
in Tibet. The lake itself, its expanse of crystal
clear water shading away to an astonishing range of
greens and blues, set like a jewel among the bare
many-hued mountains, presents a scene of stark but
drive to the camp little away from the lake Dinner
and overnight stay at Camp.

Day 04
|
LEH - HEMIS
Morning free to explore the area of Chushul mountains
and the Pangong lake. Here is a scattering of villages
along the lake's southern
shore, where barley and peas are regularly cultivated
during the summers by the Chang-pa people, the nomadic
people of Tibet and southeast Ladakh. They unfold
their tents-during winters and take their flacks of
sheep and pashmina goats, out to the distant pastures.
Drive, back to Hemis (I20 km). Lunch enroute. Dinner
and overnight stay at Camp.

Day 05
|
HEMIS - THIKSEY - SHEY
- LEH
After breakfast-visit Hemis monastery, the most important
gompa, situated on the other side of the Indus river.
The gompn has an excellent library, particularly well
preserved wall paintings and large statues Buddha
and Padmasnmbhnva. Lunch. Continue drive visit of
Thiksey (28 km). The monastery is very picturesque
and superbly sited on a hilltop overlooking the village
and the Indus. Proceed to Leh (17 km) enroute visiting
Shey-the old summer palace of the kings of Ladakh.
Built nearly 600 years before, the Palace is in ruins
but the Gompa has a 12-meter high seated Buddha image.
Just close to the palace are five Buddhas of Meditation
carved on rock. Dinner and overnight stay at Leh.

Day 06
|
LEH
Breakfast. Lunch. Full day free. (Various options
like visiting monasteries, River rafting on Indus
or walk around the Bazaar, observing the varied crowd
and peering into the curio shops. A particularly charming
sight is the line of women from nearby villages sitting
along the edge of the footpath with baskets of fresh
vegetables brought for sale to the townspeople). Dinner
and Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 07
|
LEH - DELHI
Early morning transfer to Airport for flight back
to Delhi. Breakfast on board the flight.
