A pretty lake
surrounded by an emerald meadow cropped carpet soft by cattle
and sheep, and enclosed in deeply wooded hills is what prompted
the Swiss to christen Khajjiar "Switzerland of India" . It has
become one of the most sought after pleasure grounds for visitors.
However, of late, the 1,950 m high sylvan beauty of the Himalaya
has been turned into an eye sore by litterbug tourists. Snowfall
in winter and mild in summer.
Getting There
By Road: Khajjiar is connected
by road to Chamba and Dalhousie. It is 24 kms from both centers
along a very scenic and forested, though narrow, road. This
road passes for a stretch through the Kalatope wildlife sanctuary,
where it is not unusual to come across a variety of fauna
and avian wildlife.
Though there
is a bus service to Khajjiar from both the main centres, the
best approach is with a taxi. The bus service can be irregular.
ENTERTAINMENT
Khajjiar, primarily, is a place to enjoy the natural beauty
of the mountains, in its many walks through the forested countryside.
Being within a wildlife sanctuary, it is also a naturalist’s
paradise.
However, some other forms of entertainment
available here are horse riding and big wheel rides.
